Housing Co-op Network Launched
CanCoNet.com, a.k.a. the Canadian Co-operative Network, saves
people time and money by providing online applications and virtual tours of
affordable housing. “You don’t
have to travel all over town to look for a good place to live and you don’t
have to send off letters requesting applications.
It’s all on the website,” said CanCoNet’s designer and housing
co-op member Chris Corless.
The
Network brings together applicants, housing co-ops and service groups such as
building maintenance and management companies.
Applicants search for quality housing, co-ops show off their communities
and companies advertise their services. Future
plans include web casts of co-op conferences and celebrations.
CanCoNet.com has started with links to co-ops and companies in BC and Ontario. Other provinces will be added in the near future. “Eventually you will be able to apply to member co-ops right across the country. Someone in Nova Scotia could find a new home in Alberta right from their living room. And a co-op in Ontario can share information with a co-op in BC. It’s a great resource for Canadians,” stated Chris.
Chris “thinks Globally and acts locally” by volunteering in his own community and by supporting other neighbourhoods through CanCoNet.com. He received support from the Entrepreneur Assistance Society of Eastvan to set up the Network and has developed strategic partnerships to make it affordable for members.

Services, and Cana Management Associates, a housing co-op management company.
